Engineering Wing

Engineering wing is involved in all the electrical and mechanical works of the city. It also undertakes all new construction works which are either self-financed by CDA or funded by any other government department/office. The wing is responsible for the production, treatment, conduction and distribution of potable water from different surfaces as well as groundwater resources to the end-user. The wing also looks after the maintenance of roads, footpaths, drainage systems and landscaping of commercial areas of the city.

Responsible for O&M of Simly Dam and Metropolitan Water Supply Project (Khanpur-I)

The Bulk Water Management directorate within the Capital Development Authority (CDA) carries the crucial responsibility of overseeing the operation and maintenance of Simly Dam and the Metropolitan Water Supply Project Khanpur-I. This directorate is structured into two integral divisions namely, the Simly Dam Division, in collaboration with the office of the resident engineer from WAPDA, and the Khanpur Dam Division. The water sourced from Simly Dam serves as the exclusive supply for Islamabad, while Khanpur Dam's water undergoes treatment at the Sangjani Water Treatment Plant before being distributed to the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi in accordance with the approved allocation.

Parliament Lodges & Hostel Directorate

Responsible for repair & maintenance of Parliament lodges having 362 Parliamentarian residences, 46 family suites in MNA hostel and 114 servant quarters, CDA Hostel.

Aiwan-e-Sadar Directorate

Responsible for repair & maintenance of Aiwan-e-Sadr Secretariat, residency, officer colony, staff colony and other allied offices.

The MPO directorate comes under the engineering wing and is headed by a director. There are two deputy directors, each heading a division, namely the operations division and the maintenance division. Each division has three assistant directors heading sections. Each division has a divisional accounts officer reporting to deputy directors who also act as the drawing and disbursement officers.

Responsible for; laying of water and sewerage networks in the city and model villages/rural areas. The directorate of water and sewerage development holds the pivotal responsibility for the planning and implementation of various schemes and projects associated with water supply and sewerage development in the Islamabad area. Responsible for; production, transmission and distribution of water from ground and surface sources

The Water Supply Directorate plays a crucial role in ensuring the availability of clean and potable water to the residents of Islamabad. Here's an overview of its responsibilities and operations:

  1. Water Production and Treatment: The directorate is responsible for producing, treating, and ensuring the quality of water from various sources, both surface and ground. This includes the operation of Simly and Sangjani water treatment plants, Shahdara, Saidpur, Korang, and Noorpur Water Works, the Poona Faquiran Augmentation Scheme, and 189 tube Wells.
  2. Distribution Network: The water is distributed across the city through an extensive system of conduction, service reservoirs, sumps/intermediate pumping stations, and a distribution network. This network ensures that water is delivered efficiently to consumers.
  3. Small Filtration Plants: In addition to the major water treatment facilities, the directorate has installed 37 small water filtration plants in various sectors of Islamabad, providing clean drinking water to residents in specific areas.
  4. Water Tanker Service: To address water shortage complaints and ensure an uninterrupted water supply, the directorate operates a water tanker service comprising 36 tankers, which can be requested by consumers when needed, typically for a nominal charge.

The water supply directorate operates through four divisions:

  1. Production Division-I
  2. Production Division-II
  3. Distribution Division (North)
  4. Distribution Division (South)

The production and treatment processes take place at filtration plants and tube wells, after which water is transported to service reservoirs and intermediate pumping stations. From there, it's distributed through the city's network to reach individual households and consumers.
