Date: Oct 18, 2026

Islamabad: October 17, 2026: Under the vision of Federal Minister for Interior Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and the leadership of Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Sohail Ashraf, CDA and the supervision of Sardar Khan Zimri DG Islamabad Water Agency, CDA is exploring avenues for modernising Islamabad's water supply system to ensure a more efficient, reliable and sustainable supply of water to the citizens of the federal capital. In this regard, discussions have been held with representatives of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) regarding proposed cooperation for the technical and financial assessment of Islamabad Water's existing infrastructure, with a focus on improving operational efficiency, energy conservation and the sustainable management of water resources. Under the proposed initiative, a comprehensive technical and financial assessment of approximately 200 tube wells, 40 overhead water tanks and associated pumping stations will be undertaken to evaluate the existing system's performance and identify opportunities for improvement. The assessment is expected to cover electricity consumption, water pressure, distribution efficiency, operational and maintenance costs, and the overall performance of the existing water supply infrastructure. The initiative will also examine the feasibility of introducing a modern Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to facilitate real-time monitoring, automated control and improved operational management of the water supply network. The proposed system could help identify operational inefficiencies, improve monitoring of water distribution and support more informed, data-driven decision-making. Under the vision of Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi and Leadership of Chairman CDA, Mohsin Naqvi, and supervision of Director General Islamabad Water Agency, CDA, Sardar Khan Zimri, the proposed initiative aims to identify practical and sustainable solutions for strengthening Islamabad's water supply infrastructure and improving service delivery to residents. Following the initial assessment, technical documentation and financial and administrative feasibility studies are proposed to be developed. Subject to the completion of the required assessments, approval by the competent forums and compliance with applicable rules and regulations, an international competitive bidding process may be considered for implementation. The scope of services, responsibilities of the selected company and other contractual obligations will be determined in accordance with the final agreement and approved terms and conditions. The primary objectives of the initiative are to reduce unnecessary electricity expenditure, improve the efficiency of water supply operations, promote the effective use of modern technology and explore sustainable solutions for meeting the water requirements of Islamabad's growing population. CDA remains committed to utilising its available resources and exploring appropriate technological and institutional partnerships to strengthen the city's water management system. Through planned modernisation and improved operational practices, Islamabad Water aims to enhance the reliability of water supply services while promoting the responsible and sustainable use of water resources. The proposed cooperation with IFC represents an opportunity to assess modern water management solutions and identify feasible measures for building a more efficient, resilient and sustainable water supply system for Islamabad today and tomorrow.
