CDA Chairman Highlights Major Reforms in Water Management, Digitization and Urban Development During PMS Officers’ Visit

ISLAMABAD: November 18, 2025: Officers and faculty of the 7th Post Induction Training Course of the Punjab Provincial Management Services visited the CDA Headquarters on Tuesday. The officers were warmly welcomed at the CDA Headquarters on this occasion. Director General Urban Planning, Zafer Iqbal, briefed the PMS officers on the overall working of CDA, administrative structure, functions and operations of the CDA. The officers were provided detailed briefing about the Islamabad's Master Plan, zoning regulations, and urban planning. They were also informed about the challenges facing Islamabad and the measures being taken to address them. In response to questions from the participants, Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa said that several measures are being taken in Islamabad to promote water conservation and increase the groundwater level. In this regard, the Islamabad Water Agency has been established to better manage water resources and address water and sewage-related issues in the city. Various projects are being initiated in collaboration with international partners to improve the management of existing water resources and resolve related issues in Islamabad. Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa said that modern technology is being utilized and the process of digitizing land records is ongoing to resolve land issues and eliminate encroachments. He mentioned that work is also underway to establish a modern solid waste management system and a scientific landfill site as well. Chairman CDA said that Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and feasibility studies are conducted for every mega projects like interchanges and underpasses before their construction begins. He added that various projects are not only being made environmentally friendly but efforts are also being made to obtain carbon credits from these projects. Chairman CDA mentioned that while the launch of new sectors and developmental work within them is being accelerated, special attention is also being given to the upgradation of old sectors. Similarly, a digital parking system is being introduced in the city. Chairman CDA emphasized that all revenue generated from these projects will be spent on the city's renovation, development, and beautification. On this occasion, Member Planning and Design Dr. Khalid Hafiz informed the participants that initially, 100 large recharge wells are being constructed at various locations in Islamabad to channel rainwater underground. He stated that 20 large water tanks will be built in Islamabad to store water. Member Planning further added that Islamabad's mass transit system includes 4 metro bus routes and 160 environmentally-friendly electric feeder bus routes. At the conclusion of the briefing, commemorative shields were presented to the officers of the 7th Post Induction Training Course of the Provincial Management Services, and a group photograph was also taken.
