ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is taking an important step towards strengthening Islamabad's water supply infrastructure, with construction of the Shahdara Dam project expected to commence soon. The project is expected to play a significant role in addressing the capital's growing water requirements and supporting its sustainable development. Under the vision of Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Federal Minister for Interior, and the leadership of Sohail Ashraf, Chairman CDA, the Shahdara Dam project represents an important initiative towards expanding Islamabad's water resources and improving long-term water security for its residents. After decades of anticipation, consultations and deliberations, the Shahdara Dam project is expected to introduce a new source of surface water into Islamabad's water supply system under the supervision of Sardar Khan Zimri, Director General, Islamabad Water. The project is anticipated to contribute approximately 5–10 million gallons per day (MGD), subject to final design, technical assessments and operational arrangements. The project is planned for completion within two years. Its timely completion would mark an important milestone in Islamabad's water infrastructure development and strengthen ongoing efforts to meet the city's increasing water demand. The Shahdara Dam initiative underscores the importance of long-term planning, institutional coordination and investment in essential public infrastructure to support Islamabad's continued growth and development. With the timely implementation of the project, the capital is expected to take an important step towards a more water-secure and sustainable future. Citizens have appreciated CDA's ongoing efforts to improve water supply services and ensure the provision of water to residents. The Authority values the public's confidence, cooperation and continued support and remains committed to improving the reliability and continuity of water supply across Islamabad. These efforts are particularly important in view of the city's increasing population, growing water demand and limited water resources. Under the leadership of Sohail Ashraf, Chairman CDA, the Authority remains committed to exploring additional water sources, strengthening the existing water supply network and improving its overall efficiency and reliability. The Shahdara Dam project is an important part of these broader efforts to enhance water availability and support the long-term needs of Islamabad's residents. The CDA reiterates its commitment to working in the public interest and taking sustainable measures to improve water security for the residents of Islamabad.
