Islamabad: 16th Sep, 2024:Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Monday directed the authorities concerned to expedite construction work on Islamabad Model Jail to ensuring its timely completion. CDA chairman in that regard chaired a meeting which was attended by the Project Director of the Public Works Department (PWD) along with other relevant officers of CDA and PWD. The meeting discussed the modalities of smooth transition of the construction work on the Islamabad Model Jail from PWD to CDA. Discussions were held to ensure that the transition process takes place efficiently and promptly for making CDA an executing agency for the project in consultation with the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Planning, Development and Initiatives. Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa emphasized that till the complete transition, PWD should work in full coordination with CDA to ensure seamless progress of the project. A briefing was also given on the current status of the completed and ongoing work at the Islamabad Model Jail. Chairman Randhawa stressed the importance of completing the Phase- I of construction work by the assigned deadline. This phase includes the completion of critical infrastructure such as the boundary wall, barracks, the administrative block, roads and watchtowers. According to the briefing, approximately 70-80% of the boundary wall and administrative block have already been completed, while work on the barracks and watchtowers is still underway. Following the successful completion of Phase I of the Islamabad Model Prison, the work on Phase II will soon commence under the supervision of CDA. This project, once completed, will mark a significant advancement in Islamabad’s infrastructure, providing a state-of-the-art facility for the prisoners that meets modern standards of safety and security.
