ISLAMABAD September 4, 2025: Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, presided over the 77th meeting of the CDA Development Working Party (CDA-DWP) at CDA Headquarters on Thursday. The meeting was attended by senior officers from the Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Division, Ministry of Interior, Finance Division, CDA Board members, and representatives of relevant formations and project consultants. In its 77th meeting, the CDA-DWP approved several projects related to road infrastructure, water conservation, and service delivery in Islamabad. The meeting approved the construction of 100 Rainwater Rechargeable Wells at various locations in the capital to conserve water, recharge groundwater and improve the water table. It was informed that in 2023, 100 such wells were constructed, which produced positive results as per the PCRWR report. A PC-1 worth Rs. 185.282 million was approved for the new wells, which will be built in greenbelts, open spaces and other suitable locations. The CDA-DWP also approved Rs. 1404.24 million for the construction of 20 underground water tanks to store rainwater and prevent wastage. In the first phase, 10 large tanks will be built at different sites to store clean water flowing through natural streams, while the remaining tanks will be constructed in the second phase after evaluation. Representatives of WASA informed the meeting that such tanks have proven effective in Lahore and assured technical cooperation with CDA. To address water pollution, the forum approved the construction of 11 wetlands at various points in Islamabad. These wetlands will scientifically treat polluted water before releasing it back into natural streams, in addition to reducing flood risk and supporting biodiversity. For flood mitigation in low-lying areas, the meeting approved a PC-1 of Rs. 88.74 million for the construction of an RCC sewer pipeline from Rawat T-Chowk to Soan River, which will significantly reduce flooding during heavy rains. In line with the vision of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the CDA-DWP also approved Rs. 513.477 million for upgrading five cricket and five football grounds across the city. These grounds will be modernized with state-of-the-art facilities to promote sports and healthy activities. On the occasion, Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa said that the revenue generated from the upgraded sports grounds would be utilized for their construction, maintenance, beautification, and for promoting sports and talent hunt programs.
